In previous blog posts I’ve talked about the different wellness pillars of the OptomEyesLife lifestyle, including nourishing our bodies with nutritious foods for better whole body health —but what about nourishing our minds?
Mindfulness meditation has long been used as a tool for stress reduction, but it may also be useful as an adjunct clinical therapy for various health conditions.
The Power of Positive Thinking
When it comes to your eyes, a study recently published in the Journal of Glaucoma describes how a short, three-week course of daily, hour-long mindfulness-based stress reduction by meditation reduced intraocular pressure (IOP), normalized stress biomarkers, and positively modified gene expression in patients with primary-open angle glaucoma (POAG).
Given these results, I want to turn your focus inwards to utilize the power of the mind. Positive affirmations are statements you can say to yourself to help reshape internal motivations in order to foster a healthier and happier well-being. If you are new to the practice of meditation and mindfulness, keep reading for a list of ten phrases you can start with.
How to Practice
Begin with the first affirmation and work your way down the list, or pick one that resonates with you that day. Say it to yourself first thing in the morning and repeat it several times throughout the day.
Remember, these affirmations are just a guideline to get you started with your daily practice. I challenge you to come up with at least three of your own that speak directly to you and where you are in life.
